Respiration is a biological process that all humans use to break down Glucose molecules in the body, in order to release it's chemical energy and carry out life's functions. The process of Respiration requires that humans first obtain their Glucose from plants, food that plants have essentially created for themselves and stored within their green leaves. Plants are thus considered the producers of nature and the first step in the food chain, since only they have the machinery to create Glucose from photosynthesis. Humans are considered consumers, since they take this stored chemical energy from plants through participating in the food chain.
Respiration and Photosynthesis are exact "opposite" processes, with the same molecules involved:
In the process of Respiration, both Glucose and oxygen are taken into cells, where the catalyst oxygen helps break down a Glucose molecule, unlocking the stored energy within. The chemical Energy stored within the Glucose molecule is released by cells, allowing life processes including all activities that occur within the human body. The energy obtained from plants literally sets our body into motion. As result of respiration, humans then release carbon dioxide and water back into the atmosphere as waste products. These substances will again be used by plants to create Glucose during photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis and Respiration are exact opposite processes that occur within nature, illustrating the majesty of how Nature conserves and preserves itself. It also reveals the interdependency between plants and animals, and the fundamental balance inherent within the laws of the Natural World.
